About NAMLAS

The Nigeria Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS) is a faith-based non-political national student body that unites Muslim law students from universities, colleges, and law faculties across Nigeria.

We are duly registered under the relevant laws of the Federation of Nigeria, giving our operations firm legal standing and recognition. Our association serves as a platform for Muslim law students to grow academically, spiritually, and professionally while maintaining strong Islamic values.

Our Mission

To nurture a new generation of spiritually grounded lawyers who combine academic excellence, professional skill, and strong Islamic values, preparing them for success in the legal profession and specialized fields like Islamic social finance and capital markets.

Founded to provide a platform for learning, leadership, and service, NAMLAS has grown into a network of vibrant chapters under the coordination of the National Headquarters, based at the Shari'ah Court of Appeal, Gwagwalada, Abuja. Our guiding principles are justice, integrity, and community service.

Justice

Upholding fairness and equity in all our activities and advocacies

Integrity

Maintaining honesty and strong moral principles in all dealings

Service

Dedication to serving our members and the wider community

Our Structure

NAMLAS operates through a well-defined organizational structure that ensures effective administration and member participation:

  • National Headquarters: Oversees national programmes, sets policy direction, and coordinates inter-chapter collaboration from our base in Abuja.
  • Local Chapters: Run campus-based events, trainings, and outreach projects at universities nationwide.
  • Shurah Council: Our Islamic-oriented leadership body that gives members opportunities to grow and serve.
  • Board of Trustees: Comprised of six distinguished professionals, professors, legal scholars, and Islamic clerics who provide strategic guidance.

Our Activities

Our flagship programmes include the National Seminar and Annual General Conference, bringing together members from across the country for lectures, panel sessions, competitions, and networking.

We host Qur'an study circles, tafsir sessions, and discussions on contemporary legal issues from an Islamic perspective. Special emphasis is placed on training future experts in Islamic social finance and the Islamic capital market.

Through moot courts, mock trials, client counselling competitions, legal quizzes, and leadership workshops, members sharpen their legal skills alongside their personal growth.

Our Legacy

NAMLAS has produced leaders who now serve in key positions locally and internationally. Our alumni network includes legal practitioners, academics, and professionals who continue to mentor current members and support the association's growth.

Our Vision

To be the leading platform for Muslim law students in Africa, producing lawyers who excel in the profession, live by Islamic values, and contribute meaningfully to society.
